Animal Print is not a Trend. It is a Neutral.
If you are familiar with Italian fashion, you know that it is much more adventurous and experimental than American fashion. A small example is the fact that Italian women consider the animal print, in particular, leopard print, just a fun neutral. It is a staple print in their overall style and they play with it very much like they do with a nude.
Leopard print is a combination of black and brown, which is considered a no-no combination by an old and obsolete fashion rule. Like everything in fashion, it is only a tabu until it becomes a trend. Just this year Vogue has referred to black and brown combination as the color of the moment. So now, more women feel comfortable in carrying a black bag with brown boots.
Honestly, I never paid too much attention to fashion rules. I think they are silly and senseless. Style is about balance not rules. You can play with fashion elements in harmony just by balancing the weight and color of the entire outfit.
Back to leopard print, yes it is bold but you can play with it by making it the focus of your outfit or just a marginal accent. For instance, an accessory in leopard print can elevate your look from boring to unexpected, edgy, and even sexy. Think about a black dress, or a white top and black pants, with a pair of leopard-print heels…so much fun! But, you can also decide to pick a clothing item in that print, making the focal point and let it dominate the outfit.
I own a leopard print dress, a coat, a top, a scarf, and pointed-toe heels; and they are not trendy piece, they are meant to stay in my closet, for a very long time!
Please, share your opinion and…what is your favorite trend?
